Before Europe came

I shaped knowledge

Gave it breath

Before Greece

Spoke of the principles

That guide nations

My kingdoms spread

Wisdom and knowledge

From Timbuktu to Persia

And beyond

Before Columbus

Was lost beyond

His horizons

Abubakari found Brazil

A new place

For his royal bird

Before Shaka Zulu

Saw perfection

In his hand-to-hand army

Their bodies too strong

For the stiff lip of Britain

Before he saw

The Queen of England bowed

In defeat

Before this Eurocentric world

Forced itself

Through the doors of my traditions

I was the reason

For a crown

How can I

Be average?
